Workplace accidents: These are the leading causes

Although companies across Ohio take the time to make sure that their facilities are as safe as possible, the fact is that there is still a chance that a workplace accident will occur. Unfortunately, employees will often not know about these dangers until they or a co-worker gets into an accident. The following includes a list of the leading causes of workplace accidents.

Slip and falls

Perhaps the most common workplace accidents are slips and falls. No matter the type of business, floors are still going to be an issue. Things such as a freshly mopped floor or items being left around can be enough to cause an employee to slip and fall. If a worker gets hurt due to the company’s negligence, he or she may be able to file a claim for workers’ compensation. Further examples of common hazards that can cause slips and falls include:

  • Uneven floors
  • Inadequate lighting
  • Unorganized inventory/machines

Overexertion

The second most common on-the-job injury is overexertion. Oftentimes, employees will be too scared to tell their boss that they can’t do certain things, such as picking up or pushing a heavy object. However, it is incredibly important to do so as it can cause severe injuries, such as a dislocated disc or hernias to name a few.

Repetitive motion injuries

Contrary to popular belief, not all workplace accidents occur in a single moment. Some will take weeks or even months to develop. These injuries are usually caused by repetitive motions. Some of the most common types of injuries include rotator cuff injuries and muscle strains.

As you can see from the information above, many workplace accidents can occur. If you are unfortunately involved in such an accident, it is important to obtain the aid of a workers’ compensation attorney as soon as possible.
